Company Overview

Ground Investigation Specialists is a UKAS-accredited geotechnical laboratory providing a wide range of laboratory and in-situ testing services to the construction industry. We specialise in soil classification and compaction testing, supporting projects across Scotland.

Position: Laboratory Technician

Location: Dyce (with frequent travel to client sites across Scotland)

Hours: 8:00–17:00, Monday to Friday (overtime paid for additional hours)

We are looking to recruit a Laboratory Technician to join our busy and expanding geotechnical laboratory. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to develop a career in ground investigation and materials testing.

You will be based in our Dyce laboratory, with regular travel to client sites throughout Scotland. Occasional overnight stays will be required as part of the role. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out soil classification and compaction tests in a UKAS-accredited laboratory environment
  • Assist with a range of geotechnical laboratory and in-situ testing for construction projects
  • Prepare, label, and record samples accurately
  • Follow established test methods, procedures, and quality standards
  • Use laboratory equipment and computer systems to record and process test data
  • Work safely in both laboratory and site environments, following health and safety procedures
  • Liaise professionally with colleagues and clients while on site
  • Contribute to the smooth, efficient running of the laboratory

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Educated to Higher level (or equivalent)
  • Proactive and able to work on your own initiative
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate (e.g. basic use of Excel/Word or similar)

Desirable:

  • Experience in a similar role (laboratory, construction materials testing, geotechnical, or scientific/technical environment)
  • An interest in construction, engineering, or earth sciences

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £13.50-£15.50 per hour
