The Head Kitchen Porter is responsible for leading and supervising the kitchen porter team to ensure the kitchen is cleaned, organized, and maintained to the highest hygiene standards. This role supports the chefs and kitchen staff by ensuring all equipment, crockery, and utensils are available and properly cleaned, while maintaining smooth back-of-house operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise, train, and motivate the kitchen porter team.
  • Delegate daily cleaning and washing-up tasks effectively.
  • Ensure consistent high standards of cleanliness and organization in all back-of-house areas.
  • Manage, breaks, and cover shifts when required.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Oversee and participate in the cleaning of all kitchen equipment, utensils, and surfaces.
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, storage areas, fridges, and freezers.
  • Ensure waste is properly disposed of and recycling procedures are followed.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and notify management when stock needs replenishing.
  • Conduct regular deep cleans according to schedule.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
  • Report maintenance issues or safety hazards immediately.
  • Assist with regular kitchen inspections and audits.
  • Ensure proper use of chemicals and cleaning equipment.

Operational Support

  • Support chefs by ensuring all equipment and crockery are available during service.
  • Help with basic food prep when required (e.g., peeling, washing vegetables).
  • Ensure delivery areas are kept clean and assist with unloading deliveries.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Kitchen Porter, ideally in a supervisory or senior porter role.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety standards.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible with working hours, to deal with the golf seasons
  • Physically fit and capable of manual work.

Desirable:

  • Food Hygiene Level 2 (or higher) certification.
  • Experience in large-scale or high-volume kitchens.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment maintenance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £26,100.00 per year
