Role purposeThe key purpose of the Quality Assurance Lead role is to establish, implement, and maintain comprehensive quality assurance frameworks and practices across the full technology lifecycle. This strategic role within the Technology Delivery team drives quality governance, testing services, and quality improvement initiatives to support both project delivery and business-as-usual (BAU) technology operations across multiple platform teams.

Key Accountabilities

People Leadership    

  • All elements of the annual performance cycle are completed by the due date (including goal setting, mid-year reviews, EOY conversations).
  • Regular 1:1's, team meetings and development conversations conducted - minimum monthly cadence.
  • Performance issues are managed in an effective and timely manner.
  • Quarterly development conversations conducted with all team members.
  • 100% of compliance training is completed on time for team.
  • All health and safety, risk and compliance requirements are delivered across the team.
  • Effective management of budgets as per forecast with demonstrated focus on managing cost.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building own capability as a people leader.

Quality Strategy & Governance    

  • Develop and implement overarching quality assurance strategies and frameworks that align with organisational technology objectives.
  • Establish and maintain quality governance processes that ensure consistent quality standards across Technology Platform teams.
  • Create and refine quality management policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Design and implement quality metrics and reporting mechanisms to track and improve technological delivery performance.

Testing & Quality Assurance Services    

  • Lead end-to-end testing strategies for both project-based and BAU technology initiatives.
  • Develop comprehensive testing approaches covering functional, integration, performance, and user acceptance testing.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Business Analysts to define testing requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Manage and coordinate testing activities across multiple Technology Platform teams.
  • Implement automated testing solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration    

  • Act as a strategic partner to Technology Platform teams, and within the Technology Delivery team.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment between quality assurance, development, and delivery teams.
  • Represent quality assurance perspectives in strategic technology discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Engage in technology roadmap planning and risk assessment activities.

Quality Improvement & Innovation    

  • Continuously evaluate and improve quality assurance processes and methodologies.
  • Research and introduce innovative testing technologies and approaches.
  • Identify and implement tools and technologies that enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of quality issues and develop preventative strategies.

Experience & Capabilities

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE (what you have done)    

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive quality assurance and testing leadership experience in complex technology environments.
  • Proven track record of establishing quality frameworks and testing strategies.
  • Experience leading and executing QA strategies.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing quality improvement initiatives.
  • Strong experience across full technology project lifecycle.
  • History of working effectively in matrix organisational structures.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and environment management.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE (what you need to know)    

  • Deep understanding of software development methodologies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of testing methodologies and best practices.
  • Proficient in test management tools (e.g., JIRA, TestRail).
  • Familiarity with cloud and on-premises testing environments.
  • Understanding of enterprise architecture and technology platform ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of compliance and governance requirements in technology delivery.
  • Technical understanding of various testing tools and automation technologies.
  • Understanding of performance testing tools.
  • Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.
