Substation Testing & Commissioning Engineer (HV / 33kv+) – Bristol

Field-based (UK-wide) | Full-time | up to £80,000 per annum + 10% bonus

Are you an experienced Testing & Commissioning Engineer ready to take the lead on major 132/33kV substation projects? Join a specialist team working across the full lifecycle of high-voltage connections from design to energisation and play a key role in keeping the grid running safely and efficiently.

What you'll be doing

  • Carry out pre-commissioning, testing, and commissioning of 132kV substation equipment (GIS/AIS, transformers, protection relays, cables, SCADA systems, etc.).
  • Perform electrical and functional tests (primary/secondary injection, CT/VT, transformer tests, insulation tests, logic/interlock checks).
  • Develop commissioning plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Work closely with EPC contractors and DNOs to deliver safe, high-quality projects on time.
  • Produce detailed test results and commissioning reports for handover and compliance.

What we're looking for

  • Core experience in high-voltage substation testing and commissioning (11kV–132kV).
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with OMICRON / Megger and protection system testing.
  • Knowledge of DNO standards, network protection philosophies, and SCADA/automation systems.
  • Safety-focused, proactive, and comfortable working in dynamic, field-based environments.
  • AP/SAP authorisation experience would be an advantage.
