Job Overview

We are seeking a talented and experienced Chef / Cook who is passionate about creating healthy, nutritious meals for children.

We are looking for a warm, organised, and enthusiastic Nursery Chef / Cook to join our friendly team and play a vital role in supporting children's growth, wellbeing, and development through delicious and balanced food.

Main Purpose of the Role

To plan, prepare, and cook nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks for children aged 0–5 years, taking into account individual dietary needs, allergies, and preferences in line with our healthy eating policy and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare daily healthy, balanced meals and snacks following seasonal menus and food hygiene standards.
  • Cater for specific dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural preferences with care and accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen in line with environmental health and food safety regulations.
  • Manage stock levels, order supplies, and ensure efficient budget control.
  • Record and monitor fridge/freezer temperatures, food deliveries, and cleaning schedules.
  • Work closely with nursery management to review and adapt menus in response to children's needs and feedback.
  • Support children's learning around healthy eating by engaging in occasional food-based activities and events.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and hygiene procedures.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a cook/chef, ideally in a nursery, school, or care setting.
  • A genuine passion for preparing nutritious food for children.
  • Excellent knowledge of food hygiene and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high organisational standards.
  • Strong understanding of dietary needs, allergies, and portion control for young children.
  • Level 2 or above Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene regulations

Desirable:

  • NVQ or qualification in catering or hospitality.
  • Experience of working within Early Years or educational environments.
  • Knowledge of EYFS nutritional guidance and allergy management systems.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £12.21-£14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
