OverviewHead of Financial Crime role at Baker McKenzie London Office. Provides specialist advice on anti-money laundering and sanctions to the Firm\'s MLCO/MLRO, Partners, lawyers and business services professionals. For this role, the candidate will typically be engaged as a Financial Crime lawyer, Head of Financial Crime, or equivalent, or as a private practice financial crime/financial services Associate seeking an alternative career path. A good understanding of the types of clients, transactions, and matters advised upon by an international Firm, together with knowledge of new business intake/on-boarding controls and processes, is key.While professional experience and qualifications are key for this role, make sure to check you have the preferable soft skills before applying if required.ResponsibilitiesAct as a subject-matter expert and adviser to the Firm on compliance with anti-money laundering and sanctions laws and obligationsProvide management support to the AML Compliance Manager; assist in analysis of complex CDD/risk assessment queries (day-to-day management of the London AML team resides with the AML Compliance Manager)Oversee, review and refresh the Firm\'s AML and Sanctions policies, controls and procedures (in collaboration with the MLCO)Oversee, review and refresh the Firm\'s Firmwide Risk Assessment (in collaboration with the MLCO)Stay up to date with developments in financial crime laws and sector guidance and update the Firm\'s PCPs accordinglySupport the MLCO with evaluation and advice on reputational risk for high-risk new and existing clients and mattersAssist the MLRO with analysis of internal suspicious activity reports (SARs) and help draft SARs for submissionAssist the MLCO and MLRO with requests from law enforcement (production orders) and regulatory requests from the SRALead on the instruction of the Firm\'s regular independent AML audit and implement auditor recommendationsDesign, lead, and support the AML team in delivering the programme of AML/Sanctions trainingCollaborate with the Firm\'s global AML and New Business Intake (NBI) teams on European-wide projects and good practice across the global FirmSkills And ExperienceA qualified lawyer with strong PQE and experience as a Financial Crime lawyer, whether in Private Practice or within a Law FirmBackground/experience in a City/international law firm and/or leading regional firm environmentAbility to work well in a team and build strong relationships across departments and stakeholdersCommercially minded with experience in drafting policies and advice, with good attention to detail and commercial judgmentStrong academic background and written and oral communication skillsConfidence in working with Partners/senior stakeholders across the Firm, including globallyPublic speaking confidence to a range of audiencesRespect for and enjoyment of diversity of cultural, social, and academic backgroundsReports toGeneral Counsel; Head of Risk & Compliance; MLCO and MLRODirect ReportsAML Compliance ManagerPosition TypeIn MarketDevelopment FrameworkAssociate DirectorAbout UsAt Baker McKenzie we are different in the way we think, work and behave.
