UNPAID VOLUNTEER – Chief Technology Officer (CTO) / Deputy CTOMake sure to apply with all the requested information, as laid out in the job overview below.3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicantsRole Nature: VolunteerLocation: Home-basedThe Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteers‑led think tank supporting and advocating the application of blockchain and other data technologies in the global fight against climate change.THIS IS AN UNPAID VOLUNTEERING ROLE.Role Title: (Deputy) Chief Technology Officer (CTO)Reporting to: Director‑GeneralThe successful candidate will provide strategic and technical leadership for Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)/Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data Analysis (BD) across all BCI projects. Responsibilities include research, on‑boarding and training, proof‑of‑concepts, building applications, and exploring quantum computing use cases for climate action.Time commitment: approximately 20 hours per week (flexible).ResponsibilitiesDefine and execute the BCI technology strategy and roadmap for BCI’s projects and initiatives.Build, lead and manage the Emerging Technology Division and Standards Development Bureau, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation.Research and identify the best data sets and AI models for our use cases and objectives.Design, develop, test, and deploy applications and solutions using DLT/Blockchain, IoT, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Modelling, Quantum and associated tooling.Ensure the quality, reliability, security, and scalability of our technology products and services.Monitor and evaluate the performance and impact of our technology solutions and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including project partners, sponsors, donors, and beneficiaries.Stay updated on the latest trends and developments in emerging technologies, climate, and sustainability.Generate opportunities for strategic partnerships.Attend conferences and events to promote the BCI, communicate research findings and insights, and engage with key stakeholders.RequirementsSkills & AbilitiesExcellent oral communication skills and the ability to build professional working relationships.Excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance competing demands under pressure.Proven ability in computing or math‑related tasks of agile technology projects.Experience in building constructive relationships with stakeholders.Experience in working independently and with teams to drive forward projects using own initiative.Experience in designing, planning, and facilitating independent research and meeting tight deadlines.Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills with the ability to present ideas persuasively.Time commitment of an average of 20 hours a week, flexible.General & Specialist KnowledgeStrong technical skills, proficient in programming languages and tools for DLT/Blockchain, data analysis, and AI development (e.g., Solidity, Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit‑learn).Familiarity with data sources, formats, and standards such as APIs, JSON, XML, CSV.Experience developing and deploying applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).Portfolio of supported open‑source GitHub projects is desirable.Experience leading and managing technology teams and projects, including agile methodologies, budgeting, reporting, and documentation.Passionate and knowledgeable about climate and sustainability issues and solutions.Education & TrainingMaster’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.Fluent in English; a second language is desirable.Relevant ExperienceAt least 5 years of professional experience in DLT/Blockchain, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Modelling, or a related field.Nimble business mind with a focus on creative solutions.Strong project management and reporting skills with inter‑departmental and inter‑organisational communication.Experience working independently and with teams to drive forward projects using own initiative.BenefitsBlockchain and other emerging technologies, climate change and sustainability.Opportunities to hone or learn new skills including research, presentation, writing, and professional etiquette.Mentally stimulating work that provides a sense of purpose.Professional career advancement through connections and real‑world experience at the intersection of climate and emerging technologies.Long‑lasting professional relationships with others dedicated to positive change.Selection ProcessNew members are selected through a written assessment comprising:Section A: Verbal and Numerical Reasoning (20 multiple‑choice questions).Section B: Situation Judgement Test (20 multiple‑choice questions).Section C: In‑Tray Exercise (an open‑ended assessment relevant to the duties of the role). xpwpeyx Candidates who pass all three sections will be invited to the first interview and a final online interview.#J-18808-Ljbffr
