Job DescriptionScroll down for a complete overview of what this job will require Are you the right candidate for this opportunityAs Heathrow embarks upon its 7th regulatory period “H7”, Costain was awarded two lots as Major Project Partner and Asset Renewal Partner for Terminal 2 – The Queen’s Terminal.The Senior Commercial Manager will lead a team and provide support to the Head of Commercial, be self‑motivated, disciplined and commercially astute with the ability to identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks, taking ownership and responsibility. The Senior Commercial Manager shall have oversight of the implementation and ongoing assurance that at all times the Company’s governance and any contract specific requirements are adhered to. Excellent communication and customer facing skills are a must, along with working as part of a team promoting our culture and values. You will consider problems as a challenge, collect information relevant to the problem, be disciplined in ascertaining the root cause, identify and develop a practical solution, communicate the findings and implement action to resolve the problem.ResponsibilitiesProviding commercial input at work winning stageResponsibility for ensuring adequate commercial resourcing of project teamsManagement of commercial personnel responsible for: Main Contract management and administrationSupply chain management (including supply chain contract administration)Commercial Document ControlCost capture and controlCommercial reportingPlanning & programme managementResponsible for cash managementLiaison and negotiation with the Customer’s commercial and / or project teamEstablishing and maintaining productive and collaborative relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholdersEnsure the necessary internal and external periodic valuations and reports are prepared and issued in line with deadlinesImplement commercial procedures and reporting to ensure compliance with company and contract requirementsEnsure appropriate commercial records are maintained in line with the contract requirements and oversee any contractual issues.Provide guidance and support to the commercial team and develop the skills and competencies of the staff to ensure successful succession planning.Recruit appropriately competent commercial personnel in accordance with project needs and company proceduresProvide commercial advice to the Contract Leader and Head of Commercial.Work alongside the Commercial Managers from other projects on the framework to ensure a consistent approach.Manage and report on matters relating to insurances relevant to the projectReview value management and advise on Risk managementUnderstanding the implications of health and safety regulations.Ensure all health, safety and environmental risk situations are brought to the attention of Contract Leader / Project ManageKnowledge, Skills and ExperienceDesirable (but not essential) solid post‑graduate commercial experience in the construction industry with demonstrable track record of achievementDemonstrable financial and commercial acumenPractical approach, logical thought process and a methodical way of workingA creative, strategic and innovative approach to problem‑solvingExtensive experience of setting up and/or operating office management systems including filing systems and document control and distributionExtensive experience of technical minute taking at contractual meetings and able to demonstrate the ability to collate information, prepare reports, payment certificates and interim financial reports and closeout reportsExtensive experience of drafting effective contractual correspondence and the facilitation of collaborative solutionsExperience of developing & implementing procurement and contract strategiesProven negotiating and team‑working skills demonstrating the ability to motivate, develop and lead teams to deliver to or above target levels of performanceStrong analytical skillsDemonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge and experienceExperience in implementing and delivering strategic objectives and associated change programmesConfidence and ability to assert influenceThe ability to constantly improve and evolve as a commercial leader, taking account of and enabling our company’s corporate strategyQualificationsEssentialHolds an RICS / CICES accredited degree.DesirableFull Membership of RICS or CICES.May also be a member of other professional bodies or hold additional qualifications.About UsCostain helps to improve people’s lives with integrated, leading edge, smart infrastructure solutions across the UK’s energy, water, transportation and defence markets.
