Director – HV Cable System DesignConsidering making an application for this job Check all the details in this job description, and then click on Apply.Jacobs is seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to support a range of high‑profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio in the UK and Continental Europe, including high voltage AIS and GIS Substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.ResponsibilitiesDevelop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept and detailed design, conduct design reviews, estimation, and site supervision and support as required.Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions, attend and conduct internal and external meetings with clients and subcontractors.Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF, EMF, sheath induced voltage and other.Verify design reviews and compliance with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.Assist with temporary works design schemes and maintain good working relations with client / designer / team and supply chain.Guarantee that drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works; formally request any missing information in sufficient time to keep the programme on track.Complete inspection and test plans as required by the PMP / specification, ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality.Support factory inspections (FAT) and establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters.Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.QualificationsDegree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.Extensive experience in a cable‑related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.Ability to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.Experience working at EHV transmission voltages.Experience designing HV and EHV cable systems for HVAC and HVDC systems.Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.Work as a CDAE and TP141 authorisation.Benefits & CulturePeople are Jacobs’ greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent.
