Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian – Antistatique Job SummaryWe are seeking a full‑time Band 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Dietitian to join the children’s diabetes team at Dorset County Hospital. The role focuses on children and young people with type 1 diabetes, delivering evidence‑based education, pre‑pump reviews, HCL start sessions and annual dietetic reviews across the West Dorset locality. Key ResponsibilitiesProvide dietetic care for CYPD in multiple settings, primarily those with type 1 diabetes.Deliver specialised assessment, treatment and support for patients with co‑existing medical conditions.Act as a clinical expert within the paediatric diabetes multi‑disciplinary team (MDT). Train and support other healthcare professionals, school and nursery staff, and other care providers.Support junior team members and student dietitians; act as a mentor and line manager where required.Participate in two‑yearly Dorset‑wide Dietetic CPD sessions and monthly departmental sessions to encourage continuous professional development.Contribute to audit, research and policy development related to paediatric and diabetes dietetics.Qualifications & Experience – EssentialDegree/Post‑graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics.Current Registered Dietitian status with HCPC.Suggested minimum of 18 months post‑registration experience.Wide‑ranging clinical dietetic experience, including paediatrics or diabetes.Extensive experience working as part of a multi‑professional team.Knowledge of the BDA and HCPC standards that govern dietetics.Qualifications & Experience – DesirableClinical Supervisory Skills course.Basic training in communication and behaviour change.Evidence of continuing professional development.Teaching qualification or experience delivering education to groups.Counselling skills training/course.Basic management training/experience.Experience of working at Band 6 level.Experience in training other healthcare professionals.Knowledge of child development.Experience of working with children and young people.Experience of writing policy/guidelines.Experience of conducting audit or research.Experience with managing or supervising staff.Experience of student training.Sound clinical knowledge relating to paediatrics and/or diabetes.Skills & Abilities – EssentialImplement the BDA Nutritional Care Process.Competent written communication skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work alone and as part of the MDT.Strong time‑management skills, flexibility, prioritisation and initiative to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.Mentoring and clinical support of junior staff and trainees.Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding in dietetic practice.Working knowledge of Microsoft and NHS computer systems, including technology for virtual services.Understanding of audit and research in dietetic practice.Ability to travel to community settings for outreach work.Ability to influence others, both within and outside the profession.Good teaching and presentation skills.Advanced clinical reasoning and ability to process complex information.Car owner/driver.Skills & Abilities – DesirableUnderstanding of clinical governance in dietetic practice.Ability to use initiative while recognising limits.Working DetailsLocation: Dorset County Hospital, Williams Avenue, Dorchester, DT1 2JYType: Full‑time, PermanentBand: 6Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per annum (depending on experience)Working pattern: Flexible workingDate Posted: 24 November 2025Reference number: 405-25-AHP481SPDD-ABenefitsWarm Welcome payment of £5,000 for candidates relocating from outside Dorset.Equal OpportunityWe welcome applications from all under‑represented groups.
