2026 Engineering (Component) Apprentice – Higher Level Apprenticeship in Mechatronics Join Portal Londrinatur as a Component Engineering Apprentice. The role starts 07 September 2026 and offers a £24,000 per annum salary for a permanent position based in Belfast. Role Overview As a Component Engineering Apprentice, you will develop key engineering skills in electronic, mechanical and software domains, learn to interpret drawings and specifications, and work across our Services function, using industry‑standard tooling and software. What the Role Has To Offer Earn while you learn Job‑specific training experience Recognised qualifications Permanent role from day one Full tuition fee coverage for university or approved training providers Apprentice Programme You will study towards a Level 5 Higher Level Apprenticeship and a Foundation Engineering Degree (FdEng) in Mechatronics with the South Eastern Regional College in Bangor. Over three years you receive one day per week of college lessons and four days of on‑site training. Successful completion may lead to the BEng in Mechatronic Engineering at Ulster University. Responsibilities Develop engineering knowledge across electronic, mechanical and software disciplines. Familiarise with techniques and technologies used in product design and implementation. Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Assist the team with service‑engineering activities to meet deadlines and budgets. Maintain knowledge of current industry standards for all service disciplines. Requirements Self‑starter with strong time‑management and initiative. Genuine interest in engineering and a commitment to grow with Thales. Desire to achieve a degree qualification. Entry Requirements 56 UCAS tariff points including A‑level (A2) with a typical grade profile CC (including 1 from Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Technology & Design, Design & Technology, Engineering, Electronics or Double Award Science/Applied Science) or equivalent BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering (MPP) or Diploma in Engineering (MM). 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths. Applicants with a relevant degree are not eligible. This opportunity is in Belfast and requires right to work in the UK.
