UK residents only, as sponsorship is not offered for this post. We are recruiting student midwives to become registered midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The course is funded by NHS England, paying your tuition fees and offering salary support at mid band 5 with no enhancements. You will be learning to provide midwifery care in a variety of settings under direct supervision of a midwife practice supervisor. You will attend the University of Hertfordshire for theoretical teaching. The 21.5 month full time, BSc /Master of Midwifery (MMID) Shortened Programme at the University of Hertfordshire commences on the 6th of January 2025, concludes on the 28th of August 2026. You will be employed on a fixed term contract for the duration of the course. Course consists of: 50 practice weeks in a variety of clinical placements including community, low risk birth centre, High risk labour ward, ante and postnatal wards and maternity theatres. Practice weeks consist of 30 hours clinical and 10 hours theory. 8 theory weeks, consisting of four, 2 week blocks at the university. 9 programme and practice reflection weeks. 10 weeks annual leave over the programme On completion you will be a competent, caring, evidence-based midwife, capable of delivering effective woman-centred care for mothers and their families. Main duties of the job Are appropriate to the needs, contexts, culture and choices of the women, babies and their families. Are made in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and women. Are based on best evidence and clinical judgement. Involve other practitioners when this will improve health outcomes. Care for and monitor women during the puerperium offering the necessary evidence-based advice and support on baby and self-care. Antenatal Intrapartum Postnatal Provide seamless care and interventions in partnership with women and other care providers during the antenatal period which Are appropriate for women's assessed needs, context and culture Promote their continuing health and well-being Are consistent with the management of risk. Draw on the skills of others to optimise health outcomes and resource use. Refer women who would benefit from the skills and knowledge of other individuals: To an individual who is likely to have the requisite skills and experience to assist. At the earliest possible time. Supported by accurate, legible and complete information which contains the reasoning behind making the referral and describes their needs and preferences. Person Specification Values Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values Education/ Qualifications Minimum of 5 GCSEs includes English and maths or ILETS 7.0 Diploma/Degree in Adult Nursing Completion of a Research Awareness course Skills and Abilities Can demonstrate application of theory to practice Able to work in a multicultural environment. Can demonstrate forward thinking approach to care Can demonstrate robust verbal and written skills. Knowledge Up-to-date knowledge of professional Midwifery issues. Able to prioritise care appropriately. Understanding of audit and evidence based practice Can demonstrate an understanding of inter-agency working i.e. Child Protection and Domestic Violence.
