Murphy’s work includes the design and construction of two new 400kV substations in Spittal and Loch Buidhe and the delivery of 85km of Overhead Line (OHL). Our contribution supports SSEN’s planning and broader ASTI Pathway to 2030 for green energy, network resilience and transmission upgrades.Graduate ProgrammeJoin Murphy’s two-year graduate training programme to develop knowledge, skills and experience for a successful career in engineering and construction. You will work alongside experienced site engineers across multi-discipline projects, with opportunities in civils, rail, water, oil & gas and electricity upgrade projects as part of the green energy transition. The scheme includes technical and soft skills training and is aligned with ICE Approved Training Scheme to support IPD progression toward ICE membership.You will be supported by a business mentor and assigned a Supervising Civil Engineer to guide your professional journey. You will have the opportunity to work on different projects to broaden your practical understanding of civil engineering. Work on site with experienced engineers assisting with setting out, supervision and control of construction activities to ensure safety, programme, cost and quality outcomes, with proper record-keeping. Participate in progress, design and client meetings; gain experience across disciplines and understand project control, technical and commercial aspects. Contribute to design and implementation of technical solutions. Use and maintain surveying and setting-out instruments and equipment. Assist with production of method statements, site diaries, inspection and test plans, and records of works, materials and as-built documentation. Ensure inspections align with the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP). Verify materials on site meet specifications and are stored correctly. Maintain close liaison with the site foreman and works managers. Learning & Development You will participate in Murphy Learning, following a 70:20:10 approach: 70% on-the-job, 20% via mentoring and networking, and 10% formal training. You decide which skills to develop with support from your manager. Entry Requirements Studying toward an ICE-accredited Civil Engineering degree or equivalent. Additional Requirements You will need a full UK driving licence due to project location. We may require you to work away from your home location within the UK during the 2-year programme. Eligible to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable. We do not provide sponsorship.
