Clinical Professional Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics Employer: University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Location: Derriford Hospital, Level 7, Derriford Road, Plymouth, PL6 8DH Posting Date: 26 November 2025 Reference Number: 216-CB-C7629997 About the Role The successful candidate will lead the Nutrition and Dietetic Department, ensuring professional and clinical governance, contributing to the Trust’s strategic direction, and providing expert clinical guidance across acute, inpatient, outpatient and community settings. Extensive management and leadership experience within an AHP / Dietetic Department at senior level, and demonstrable clinical expertise in nutrition and dietetics are essential. Key Responsibilities Responsible and accountable for the effective delivery of all activities provided by the Nutrition and Dietetic Department to UHP NHS Trust. Professional leadership and management of the Nutrition and Dietetic service. Recruitment and supervision of clinical service leads and key personnel. Oversee and performance manage service line clinical leads and their teams. Serve as a role model in patient care delivery. Manage departmental budgets, performance and negotiate commissioned contracts. Provide expert nutritional knowledge for the multidisciplinary team. Maintain own technical clinical competence and active professional registration, ensuring at least 20% of the role is undertaken through clinical activity. Ensure safe, legal and clinically effective service delivery through adherence to professional and ethical standards. Set and monitor high standards of safe clinical care using evidence‑based knowledge. Work as a member of the multidisciplinary nutrition support team, liaising across agencies and Trusts. Manage a complex and specialist caseload of inpatients and outpatients, including specialised assessments. Support operational management to maximise capacity and manage demand. Collaborate with the Clinical Professional Lead on reviewing and implementing department and service team establishments. Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications Extensive post‑graduate demonstrable experience leading/managing adult/paediatric dietetic teams or services. Demonstrable management experience at a Senior clinical professional level. Registered Healthcare Professional. BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent. MSc or equivalent level evidence such as CPD portfolio, specialist post‑graduate modules (e.g., PENG). Mentorship course or equivalent. Healthcare Management/Leadership qualification or equivalent experience. Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels. Effective influencing and negotiating skills, including with senior health care professionals. Desirable Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications Post‑registration qualification in the specialty area or equivalent. Currently working in the speciality.
