CHP Field Engineer (Engineering Technician) – South M4 Based, Swindon Join YLEM Energy as a CHP Field Engineer (Engineering Technician) based on South M4, Swindon. Position Overview Basic salary of £39,740 + £4,128 South Weighting, on‑call payment up to £2,000k pa. Overtime available at management discretion of up to 12 hours per week. Certification payments: GasSafe £1,500 pa, 18th Edition £1,000 pa, HV Switching £1,000 pa (increasing after 12 months). Location: Regional based – Gloucester, Bristol, Bath, Swindon and Oxford. Some travel within the UK and overseas may be required. Reporting to: Area Supervisor. Staff reporting directly: None. Department Objectives Maximise electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility for operation and maintenance of plant and equipment. Ensure operation and maintenance of all operational generator sets, plant, PV, energy storage, heat transfer equipment and gas systems to achieve maximum safe electrical output. Develop a successful, sustainable and profitable business based on gas utilisation, PV, heat and energy storage. Maintain clean, safe and well‑run sites that exceed performance targets and provide comprehensive records. Key Tasks Utilise and comply with company operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record keeping and stock control systems. Execute all generator maintenance and supervise minor maintenance on generators. Maintain and repair mechanical, PV, storage, heat and electrical plant, including pumps and motors at all facilities. Inspect LV electrical equipment following training and competency. Operate HV switchgear following training and competency. Commission new build associated equipment. Incorporate new sites into operations. Provide 24‑hour emergency call‑out cover for generator failures. Order and control cost of spares and stock. Represent the company professionally with customer engagement. Supervise contractors. Implement HSQE systems. Commit to training in environmental protection and materials. Implement and monitor environmental protection procedures. Conduct air emissions monitoring. Complete outstanding works from site audits. Maintain company vehicles to manufacturers’ specifications. Handle environmental spillages with appropriate equipment. Perform any reasonable task required by management. Knowledge / Experience Extensive knowledge and experience of electrical, heat and mechanical maintenance. Recognition in an electrical skill or relevant field experience. Experience with electric control systems (12V DC, 415V AC). Fault location, diagnosis and rectification expertise. GasSafe accreditation or ability to complete within probation. Electrical qualification or ability to complete 18th edition within probation. Experience with natural gas peaker plants, CHP, PV, energy storage, HVAC systems is advantageous. Computer literate.
