Graduate Civil Engineer – 32053 Join the Environment Agency as a Graduate Civil Engineer and play a pivotal role in safeguarding communities, wildlife, and natural resources as we tackle climate change. The 4‑5 year Graduate Training Scheme is a structured, hands‑on programme that provides the skills, experience and opportunities required to become a future leader in the Agency. Training Programme Diverse Placements – 6‑12 month rotations across a wide range of teams including asset management, strategic planning, site supervision, modelling, forecasting, natural flood management, national fisheries service and health & safety. Flexible Pathways – Your journey is tailored to your interests and development needs, whether that be geotechnics, hydraulics, project logistics or other specialisations. Learning & Development – Accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the programme guides you toward Incorporated (IEng) and Chartered (CEng) status. Eligibility & Requirements Graduate with an accredited BEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) – preferably an MEng. Both degrees must satisfy ICE accreditation for IEng or CEng status. Proactive, adaptable, inquisitive, self‑motivated with strong collaborative skills. Willfully comply with application process (complete Higher Education qualifications section of the application form). Full UK driving licence within 6 months of start. Capable of travel to flood defence assets, events and team meetings. Competence Assessment Achieves Results – Provide an example of a project you delivered, prioritising workload and overcoming setbacks to meet deadlines. Works in Teams – Describe how you built relationships and collaborated to reach a challenging common goal. Environmental Awareness – Give an example of an engineering project where environmental impacts were identified and mitigated. Uses Initiative – Outline when you identified an improvement opportunity and led change. How to Apply Shortlisting will take place in January 2026 with interviews in February/March 2026.
