Band 4 - Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (Apprenticeship) The closing date is 10 December 2025 We have an excellent training opportunity for a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) at Watford General Hospital. This role will provide you with comprehensive training, and you may be required to work at either site to gain diverse experience. As a post holder, you will participate in the rotational training programme for pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians. This is a two-year apprenticeship, consisting of one day per week dedicated to study and four days of work-based learning. Main duties of the job Upon completion of the two-year programme, you will earn a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, qualifying you to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). This qualification opens the door to a diverse range of rewarding career paths across healthcare settings, including hospitals, community pharmacies, the prison service, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), and GP practices. Job responsibilities To develop the knowledge, skills and show competencies in the following: Medication dispensing and checking. Medication storage and destruction. Medication distribution. Drug history taking. Medicines reconciliation. Medication counselling. Adhere to the requirements of current legal, professional and ethically standards. Person Specification Education and qualifications: 4 GCSE's including maths, English and science grade C or above (4 or above). Must not hold a Level 3 qualification or above in the same training subject. Not already in formal government funded education. Studied to AS or A level standard / undertaken further education NVQ or BTEC level 2 in a GPhC recognised qualification e.g. Pharmacy Services. Knowledge: Personal time management. Working with SOP's. Knowledge of the NHS Long term Plan and the NHS structure. Understanding of the NHS vision & values. Understanding of COSHH for handling of hazardous pharmaceuticals. Experience: Pharmacy experience. Health service experience. Pharmacy experience in any sector.
