Clinical Fellow - Ophthalmology - Emergency Eye Care & Medical Retina The closing date is 02 December 2025 Emergency Eye Care, Medical Retina & General Ophthalmology Initially 6 months with option to extend to 12 months. Full time or part time considered. Suitable for those wishing to gain additional experience to enter training at ST3 level, gain experience to count towards CESR accreditation, or gain UK based experience. Previous clinical fellows have secured fellowships at major UK institutions and successfully applied for RCO consultant accreditation. Post holder will acquire clinical and surgical experience equivalent to training posts, including carrying out work based assessments suitable for a Royal College e-portfolio, and opportunities for ocular surgery. Time is also given to attend regular regional post‑graduate teaching/educational events. Familiar with outpatient clinics, operating sessions and primary care sessions, including on‑call duties, and a first‑on‑call 1:8 rota which includes prospective cover for annual and study leave. Medical Practitioners applying for the post should be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be expected to have had at least two years of experience in ophthalmology. Main duties of the job The post offers comprehensive experience in all aspects of ophthalmology in a well‑supported and closely supervised environment. Appropriate clinical and educational supervision is provided within the department. The post holder will participate in outpatient clinics, operating sessions and primary care sessions, including on‑call. Person Specification Qualifications & Training FRCOphth part 1 or equivalent Full GMC registration with a licence to practice FRCOphth or equivalent Knowledge and Skills Completed general ophthalmology training Some prior experience in medical retina Experience 3 years as an ophthalmologist 1 year in Medical retina Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
