To be successful as a Solution Architect, you should have experience with: AWS Cloud & Architecture - VPC, IAM, ELB, ALB, EKS, ECS, Transit Gateways, Kubernetes, Secret Manager, Hashicorp Cyberark Data Processing - Java, Kafka, Streaming / Flink / REST APIs / gRPC / Spark Streaming & Batch Databases — NoSQL, AWS DynamoDB, MongoDB, Postgres/Oracle SQL DBs Some other highly valued skills may include: Fraud Detection Domain Strong Data Architecture skills Strong Cyber Security experience - tokenisation, encryption, hashing (Data at Rest/Transport) You may be assessed on key skills relevant for success in the role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills. This role will be based in either our Northampton or Glasgow office. Purpose of the role To design, develop, and implement solutions to complex business problems, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements, and design and implement solutions that meet those needs, balancing technology risks against business delivery, and driving consistency. Accountabilities Design and develop solutions as products that can evolve, meeting business requirements, aligning with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling, including identification and implementation of the technologies and platforms. Apply workload placement strategies to maximize cloud capabilities such as elasticity, serverless, containerization. Incorporate security principles (defence in depth, reduction of blast radius) that meet the Bank’s resiliency expectations. Balance risks and controls to deliver the business and technology value. Adopt standardised solutions where appropriate, and contribute to their evolution if no standard fits. Support operational teams with fault finding and performance troubleshooting, leveraging tooling. Assess solution design impacts in terms of risk, capacity, and cost, including project change and ongoing run costs. Develop architecture inputs for governance compliance, including design artefacts for architecture, privacy, security, and records management. Vice President Expectations Contribute to strategy, requirements, and change recommendations; manage resources, budgets, policies; deliver improvements; escalate breaches. For those managing teams, define roles, plan for future needs, counsel on performance, and influence operations, aligning with strategic and tactical priorities. Demonstrate leadership behaviors (Listen, Energize, Align, Develop) to create a thriving environment. For individual contributors, act as subject matter experts, guide technical directions, lead assignments, and mentor less experienced staff. Advise stakeholders on impacts and alignment across functions. Manage risks, demonstrate accountability, and contribute to organizational goals. Build relationships, influence outcomes, and develop innovative solutions based on research and analysis. Maintain trust with stakeholders through effective influencing and negotiating skills.
