Join to apply for the Civils Design Engineer (Substation) role at Balfour Beatty plc Be among the first 25 applicants About The Role Balfour Beatty Power T&D are currently recruiting a Civils Design Engineer (Substations) to join their team in Derby. Role Purpose To work with the project team, designers and subcontractors through the design phase to deliver the safe and suitable scope of works in line with the project objectives. Key Accountabilities Take responsibility for design delivery and design suitability for works across Power T&D construction projects. Provide advice on constructability and sequencing of civil design for Power T&D business, principally around Substations but including Overhead Lines and Cabling. Key Responsibilities Lead project and prepare designs to satisfy requirements on each project, including: Reinforced Concrete design and detailing compliant with required client and national technical standards (BS/Eurocodes/ENA). Highways and access design works. Analysis of existing foundations. Construction site layouts and CDM implementation. Assist in managing the tender process, understanding and interpreting scope of works, providing advice and opinion. Undertake check function for design calculations performed by other engineering colleagues. Skills Required Degree level education or equivalent with formal training in civil engineering and/or geotechnical engineering. Strong, proven postgraduate experience in the civil engineering industry. Experience supervising sub‑consultants or subcontractors. Proven experience of the design of civil engineering works. Strong, proven experience managing design of civil or geotechnical engineering works. Experience in the design and checking of temporary works for civil engineering projects. IT literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CAD). Desirable Skills Chartered Engineer preferred (ICE, CGeol or IStructE). Experience in the design and checking of temporary works for civil engineering projects. Experience of substation structural components. Experience of drainage design and water management.
