Job Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen within the R&D finance team to join as Management Accountant to provide a comprehensive financial management support to the Research & Development Directorate. This position is ideal for developing your accounting career in R&D Finance within a supportive and dynamic environment. Main Duties Provide management accounting services to UCLH and UCL Researchers and to internal and external stakeholders. Deliver monthly management reporting, ensuring timely reconciliations, variance analyses, and forecasting. Act as the designated financial management representative at service management and operational meetings. Identify opportunities for financial efficiencies, highlight areas of risk and ensure close monitoring. Provide and present complex financial management information and advice to stakeholders. Prepare and submit quarterly, annual and end‑of‑grant returns in line with contractual obligations. Provide costing support for research funding applications and business cases. Support the senior finance team with ad‑hoc reporting requirements. Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications – Essential Criteria Studying towards a CCAB/CIMA professional accountancy qualification or holding a first degree/equivalent. Computer literacy in packages such as Excel and Word, with experience designing and creating reports using financial spreadsheets and databases. Experience – Essential Criteria Experience with costing principles. Experience in management accounting, income & expenditure accounting, and financial reporting. Experience assisting in negotiating agreements and contracts. Experience – Desirable Criteria Understanding of NCVR, SoECAT and iCT. Communication & Customer Care – Essential Criteria Good interpersonal and negotiating skills. Ability to build effective working relationships with staff across the Trust, including consultants and non‑financial managers. Ability to prioritise objectives & targets, and plan & manage activities to achieve deadlines. Quality and Service Improvement – Essential Criteria Computer literacy with excellent spreadsheet skills. Willingness to work flexibly. Quality and Service Improvement – Desirable Criteria Good report writing and presentation skills. Evidence of influencing & persuasion. Information Collection and Analysis – Essential Criteria Proactive approach to problem solving, anticipating issues before they arise, and developing solutions. Financial Management – Essential Criteria Ability to undertake and produce complex financial calculations & schedules.
