Maintenance Manager Mechanical

Job Summary Lead and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Mechanical maintenance service, ensuring a technically strong, customer‑responsive service that complies with all relevant statutory directives. Monitor and guide staff within your team, and be responsible for external contractors completing their tasks safely and effectively. As part of the Estates Department, you will also support the delivery of capital projects, maintain high standards of quality and safety, and manage financial, workforce, and performance arrangements. Responsibilities Provide line management accountability for the mechanical maintenance team. Develop and implement maintenance plans (PPM, reactive, contract‑based). Ensure compliance with legislation, health and safety, and NHS standards. Lead the risk assessment and critical path analysis for all mechanical systems. Oversight of external contractors and procurement of services. Collaboration with clinical and operational teams to maintain a safe environment for staff and patients. Support the operational team's plan production and delivery, including financial and workforce management. Qualifications & Experience Essential A Degree or minimum of HND/HNC in a relevant estate discipline, or equivalent qualification and experience. Accredited qualification in management or demonstrable management experience. Proven record of continuing professional development, including specialisation in mechanical systems relevant to healthcare (e.g., ventilation, MGPS). Knowledge and understanding of operational estate management across all disciplines and functions. Strong knowledge of legislation relating to estate services. In‑depth knowledge of maintenance planning and organisation (PPM, reactive, contract). High level of building engineering knowledge, techniques, systems and standards. Experience implementing quality controls, processes and procedures. Risk assessment and critical path analysis capability. Responsible/Authorised Person or equivalent for named specialisms such as ventilation, HV/LV, lifts, MGPS and other similar systems. Professional knowledge of healthcare estate and technology across mechanical and electrical disciplines. Desirable Recognised professional qualification or working towards membership of a professional institute recognised by the NHS. Knowledge of fire safety requirements with building fabric and fire compartmentation. Additional experience in healthcare estate management.
