Job Summary NHUC is looking for a dynamic leader to serve as Head of Clinical Governance, Patient Safety & Quality for Same Day Care (SDC). This role will shape and oversee the clinical governance framework, safeguard patients, and ensure compliance with national standards while driving a culture of continuous improvement across our services. About Us NHUC is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society working in partnership with the NHS. We deliver services through Two divisions: Same Day Care (SDC) and TalkPlus. SDC provides urgent care under the Integrated Urgent Care contract covering Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) and Out of Hours (OOH) services in North Hampshire, North East Hampshire, Farnham, Surrey Heath, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Frimley ICB. SDC also runs Urgent Treatment Centres at Basingstoke and Frimley Park Hospitals and a virtual care arm supporting patients at home. TalkPlus offers NHS Talking Therapies for common mental health problems in Northeast Hampshire and Farnham, including treatment pathways for perinatal and military veteran referrals. Details Date posted: 08 December 2025 Pay scheme: Other Salary: Depending on experience Contract type: Permanent Working pattern: Full-time, Flexible working Reference number: U0077-25-0027 Location: The Meads Business Centre, 19 Kingsmead, Farnborough, GU14 7SR Job Description Role Summary: Ensure systems and processes are in place to maintain and improve patient safety, provide a rigorous approach to all aspects of clinical governance, lead and enhance the organisation’s commitment to delivering high‑quality, safe care across all services, and oversee regulatory compliance and quality improvement initiatives. Key responsibilities include: Provision of inspirational leadership to the clinical and non-registered workforce for SDC. Act as safeguarding lead for SDC and support the Clinical Director on strategic/organisational safeguarding. Lead patient safety initiatives, including delivery of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework. Support workforce on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) across all NHUC sites via inspections and audits. Lead the Clinical Governance Team, ensuring robust systems for complaints & incident management and quality reporting. Provide regular updates to management meetings and the Clinical Governance Committee on governance, safety, and quality matters. Develop and deliver the clinical audit programme. Support the Medicines Management Team in safe, effective patient care planning. Collaborate with the Controlled Drugs Lead to keep policies up to date and compliant. Implement national frameworks and policies, ensuring regulatory compliance. Support NHUC as a lead for CQC preparedness. Work closely with operational directors to facilitate safety and governance across all clinical areas. Provide leadership expertise to SDC’s Management Executive Committee, NHUC’s Clinical Governance Committee, and the Senior Leadership Team. Participate in the on‑call rota. Leadership & Management: Provide service‑level leadership, lead the governance team, line‑manage team members, ensure HR‑policy‑aligned staff management, maintain communication within the Senior Leadership Team, support strategic business planning, represent SDC & NHUC locally and nationally, and uphold the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Pledge. Safeguarding: Participate in forums, disseminate learning from incidents, develop safeguarding strategies, support safeguarding leads, collaborate with local teams, enforce staff training, and report on safeguarding metrics. Patient Safety: Lead IPC agenda, deliver incident response framework, maintain incident management systems, disseminate lessons, and stay updated on national safety agendas. Clinical Effectiveness: Partner with senior clinical teams, develop relevant audit programmes, review panels, ensure NICE guidance compliance, and share guidelines. Clinical Knowledge & Medicines Management: Maintain registered practice, support prescribing, conduct audits, and oversee controlled drugs compliance. Person Specification Experience (Essential) Extensive post‑registration experience in a multi‑professional primary or urgent care setting. Evidence of strategic contribution. Evidence of patient experience management and robust learning plans. Evidence of evidence‑based practice. Alignment with NHUC values and skills. Desirable Experience Incident management experience. Complaints management experience. Qualifications (Essential) Registered healthcare professional. Proven leadership skills. Relevant professional development evidence. Desirable Qualifications Independent prescribing qualification. PG Certificate in Adult Education or other teaching qualification. Mentoring/Coaching qualification. Leadership qualification/coursework. Knowledge, Communications & Personal Skills (Essential) Proficient with standard office software. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, supervise, and manage performance. Flexible and responsive to change. Strong understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion principles. Self‑motivated with strong organisational skills. Team player with support for colleagues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Professional integrity and confidentiality. Good knowledge of patient safety, audit, PSIRF, ICP. Presentation and report‑writing skills. Current professional qualifications and safeguarding level 3 in adults and children. Ability to manage complex or high‑pressure situations. On‑call rota participation. Willingness to travel to other NHUC sites.
