Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Liaison Consultant

Position Overview This is a full‑time Consultant post for General Adult Liaison mental health services at Basildon Hospital, Nether Mayne, Basildon (Essex SS16 5NL). The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership for adult patients 18‑70 years old admitted to Basildon Hospital and act as the responsible clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act. The post is currently covered by a locum middle‑grade doctor, and we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced doctor to take up a substantive role. Responsibilities Act as the responsible clinician and provide clinical leadership for general adult patients referred to the liaison team. Review new patients promptly and oversee the clinical management of patients on the wards. Be available for timely CPA meetings and facilitate discharge planning. Carry out responsibilities as responsible clinician, including Mental Health Act assessments, preparation of tribunal reports and giving oral evidence at manager’s hearings and mental health review tribunals (if required). Support staff development and effect continual service improvement. Provide clinical supervision to trainees. Participate in clinical audit to ensure continuous improvement of the service. Cover for holidays and absences as required. Qualifications & Requirements Full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register for General Adult or any subspecialty of mental health. Appropriate CCT or equivalent – or be within six months of obtaining your CCT at the time of application. Experience or interest in adult mental health liaison services. Commitment to maintaining required COVID‑vaccinations as per regulations. Experience with NHS DBS processes.
