SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic candidate with plenty of initiative to support students in a specialist secondary school in Preston.

Prospero has partnered with a specialists SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provisions in Preston that supports pupils aged 11 - 16 who have a wide range of emotional and behavioural needs. Many of the pupils have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings and require a nurturing, structured, and relational approach to education.

Role Overview:

Position: Teaching Assistant (SEMH)
Location: Preston
Contract Type: Full Time
Rate of Pay: £475.00 - £550.00 per week
Working Hours: 08:30 - 15:30

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
Assist in delivering tailored interventions and behaviour strategies
Foster positive relationships and promote emotional regulation
Support classroom routines and learning activities
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams

Requirements:
Experience as a Teaching Assistant working with children or young people with SEMH or SEN
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
A calm, empathetic, and consistent approach
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Relevant qualifications (e.g. TA Level 2/3, Youth Work, Psychology) desirable
Ability to build trust and rapport with vulnerable learners

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

Hold Right to Work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
Provide professional references covering 2 years

Prospero Teaching is acting as an employment business in relation to this vacancy. The successful candidate will be required to register with Prospero Teaching in order to fill this vacancy. Ideally, you will already have a full DBS on the update service but if not, we can process a new one.
