The Trust supports equality and diversity across staff and patients.Job responsibilitiesResponsibilities are grouped under Clinical, Research & Development, Teaching & Education, and Postgraduate activities.ClinicalIntegral involvement with the microbiology and infectious diseases teams to coordinate and provide undergraduate teaching and contribute to recruitment and monitoring in clinical trials and research.Attendance at Infectious Diseases ward rounds and microbiology meetings to support infection-related teaching and portfolio development.Participation in chronic infections clinics, inpatient rounds, and outpatient antibiotic therapy rounds as part of teaching activities.Possible participation in the registrar on-call rota depending on level of clinical experience.Research and DevelopmentGCP certification and recruitment/consent of patients for ongoing clinical trials under supervision. Prior studies in the department (e.g., RECOVERY, OVIVA, ARREST) have informed clinical practice.Teaching and EducationThe post holder will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across infection, microbiology, and related modules, coordinating with consultant teaching leads to deliver a unified program. Responsibilities include welcome/sign-off sessions, introductory sessions, weekly teaching blocks, and management of teaching issues.Undergraduate teaching: development of an integrated program across the 3 infection departments (Microbiology, Virology, Infectious Diseases) including bedside teaching, clinics, group teaching, and ward rounds.Development and maintenance of teaching resources, including online case-based materials and a Welcome booklet.Expansion of infection teaching into other blocks and potential first-year infection/module teaching.Assessment of teaching impact via student feedback and online resource usage; development of MBBS Student Selected Components (SSCs).Collaborative work with other clinical teaching fellows to improve the undergraduate experience (outpatient clinics, OSCEs, finals support).Postgraduate teaching responsibilities include organizing regular lunchtime teaching for infection juniors and consultants, with registrar-led and consultant-led sessions.Person specificationEducation & professional qualificationMedical degreeCompleted IMT/CMTGMC full registrationMRCP (UK)DesirableCurrent Specialist trainee in an infection specialtyPostgraduate certificate in medical education/teaching qualificationGood clinical practice certificateExperienceEssential: IMT/CMT level experience in clinical Infectious Diseases and unselected acute take; experience with small-scale research projectsDesirable: experience in medical education, undergraduate/postgraduate teaching, and clinical trialsValuesDemonstrable ability to meet the Trust ValuesSkills and aptitudesComputer literacy and proficient use of Microsoft OfficeAbility to work independently; strong verbal and written English communicationDisclosuresThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
