Location: Portsmouth (hybrid) Salary: Highly competitive + package A leading contractor within the UK water and infrastructure sector is seeking a Design Manager to support the delivery of a major, flagship project in Portsmouth. This is a rare opportunity to take a central role on a high-profile scheme that will enhance the region’s water resilience, environmental performance and long-term community outcomes. The Role You’ll lead and coordinate the full design process across a complex, multi-disciplinary programme of work. Working closely with civil, mechanical, electrical and process teams, you’ll ensure designs are compliant, integrated and fully aligned with construction and operational requirements. This role sits at the heart of the project, balancing technical leadership with strong stakeholder engagement and design governance. Key Responsibilities Manage and coordinate design development across a major water or infrastructure project Lead multi-disciplinary internal and external design teams Oversee design assurance, approvals, technical reviews and change control Collaborate closely with delivery, commercial and planning teams to support buildability, sequencing and cost efficiencyEngage with regulators, client representatives and supply chain partners to maintain clear and consistent design intent Promote sustainability, innovation and best practice in digital design (BIM and modern delivery tools) About You Experienced Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer with a background in water, utilities or complex civil engineering Strong understanding of the design lifecycle from concept to construction Proven ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams Comfortable managing competing deadlines and navigating complex technical interfaces Strong communicator who can influence, challenge and drive design quality Familiarity with water industry processes, standards and governance is an advantage Why This Opportunity Stands Out This role places you at the forefront of a landmark infrastructure programme in Portsmouth – work with real community, environmental and regional impact.
