Job Title: Music Technician

Grade: Scale 3, Term Time (40 weeks per year)
Hours: 33 hours 45 minutes per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:15pm
(The successful candidate will be required to work flexible hours in accordance with the needs of the school.)

Responsible to: Head of The Arts Faculty

Job Purpose

To provide technical and administrative support to teaching staff by undertaking a range of technician tasks designed to facilitate the smooth, effective delivery of Arts curricular and extra-curricular activities.
This includes support within the areas of Music, Art, Dance, Drama, and Media as directed by the Head of The Arts Faculty.

All staff have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people they are responsible for, or come into contact with.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Undertake reasonable duties as directed by the Head of The Arts Faculty or Head of Music Department.

Assist with ordering instruments and equipment under supervision of the Head of The Arts Faculty.

Prepare and set up instruments and sound equipment for rehearsals and performances.

Prepare technological teaching and extra-curricular resources using department software.

Maintain and store all equipment, including technological equipment.

Clean and care for instruments and related equipment.

Support the smooth running and administration of peripatetic music teachers and the instrumental hire process.

Provide technical support in the School Hall for assemblies and events.

Mount and maintain displays, visual aids, and student work.

Ensure the general maintenance and operational efficiency of teaching areas and report any repairs needed.

Monitor, record, and maintain equipment to meet faculty needs; manage requisition, receipt, and storage of materials.

Liaise and cooperate daily with Arts staff to support continual improvement in Arts teaching.

Support the organisation of school and Arts events, including booking coaches and affiliations.

Provide technical support for whole-school Arts events (e.g., Christmas Concerts, School Productions), including designing and operating lighting and sound systems.

Record and store GCSE and A-Level Music performances used for coursework; maintain department files.

Support the whole-school enrichment programme and liaise with other departments to promote the Arts.

Support students interested in the technical side of the Arts by running a Tech Club and managing a Tech Team for school events.

Provide content for the school website, including an Arts calendar and event reports.

Liaise with the IT department for setup and first-line maintenance of IT equipment.

Liaise with external agencies for specialist instrument maintenance when needed.

Carry out other reasonable duties (including reprographics) as requested by the Head of Faculty, within the general scope of the post.

Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people in contact with the school.
