Pathology Sciences Operational Manager Band 8A – Permanent, 37 hours/week (Mon–Fri)Salary: £62,681 – £67,665 p.a. Location: Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and Western General Hospital Department: Cellular Pathology, NHS Lothian An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified individual with proven management and organisational skills to apply for an Operational Science Manager post within Cellular Pathology. Applicants must be innovative, motivated and suitably experienced to support the management of the second largest Cellular Pathology Department within Scotland. The Cellular Pathology Department provides routine Histopathology, Cytopathology and Mortuary services as well as specialist Histopathologist services including Neuropathology, Paediatric Pathology, BMS Dissection and Mohs’ Clinics. The Department is ISO 15189 UKAS accredited and is the first Pathology Department in the UK to attain flexible scope for its IHC section. The Cellular Pathology Department operates across three sites in Lothian: the RIE and Bioquarter, and WGH sites for medical reporting. The majority of laboratory services are based at the RIE, with reception and specialised services such as EM at the WGH. There is a supported satellite lab at Lauriston Building for Mohs provision. Mortuary or body store provision is provided at the RIE, WGH and SJH sites. Working closely with the existing Pathology Operational Science Managers and Healthcare Science Manager and Pathology team, candidates will be HCPC registered, educated to MSc level or equivalent, with current appropriate significant experience of managing within Pathology services. A proven record of accomplishment within Training is desirable, as this post will support training of significant new staffing within Histopathology services, including supporting in the main laboratory, as well as support workload demand and capacity initiatives within Histopathology services. Quality Management and Health & Safety knowledge would be a further advantage. Evidence of active participation in Continuing Professional Development is required.
