Key duties include conducting triage and initial telephone consultations to identify needs and priorities. You'll then undertake specialist assessments, using standardised tools (like BOT-2 and DASH) and clinical observation, to formulate personalised intervention plans.Your work will focus on practical, community-based solutions. This includes prescribing equipment, recommending environmental adaptations to enhance safety and participation, and providing expert guidance to families and schools. Job PurposeTo manage a defined, complex community paediatric caseload, providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention, and advice to children and young people with a range of physical, coordination, developmental, and behavioural needs. The post holder will work autonomously to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care that enables participation in daily life.2. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties:To accept and triage new referrals, conducting initial conversations with families to determine the appropriateness and timeliness for OT involvement.To undertake comprehensive, specialist OT assessments of children and young people, utilising a range of standardised and non-standardised tools, including:Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2)Movement Assessment Battery for Children (M-ABC)Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration (Beery VMI)Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting (DASH)Clinical observationsOxford 24/7 Postural Management presenting postures and critical measuresTo formulate, implement, and evaluate individualised intervention plans in collaboration with the child, family, and other professionals.To provide specialist interventions, which may include:Strategies and programmes to address motor coordination difficulties (DCD).Environmental adaptations and sensory strategies for children with ASD, ADHD, or behaviours that challenge.Assessment and provision of specialist equipment to enhance function and safety.Postural management programmes and equipment reviews.To conduct telephone consultations with parents/carers to capture the current situation, strengths, concerns, and goals, and to provide signposting to universal and targeted resources.Professional & Administrative Duties:To maintain accurate, concise, and timely clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.To complete all necessary departmental paperwork, including initial assessment forms, risk assessments, and progress reports.To effectively prioritise and manage a caseload, organising own day-to-day activities.To contribute to multi-disciplinary team working, actively participating in meetings and case discussions.To adhere to the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards for practice.3. Communications and RelationshipsTo communicate complex, sensitive, and sometimes contentious information effectively with children, parents, and carers, employing empathy and reassurance.To build strong working relationships with a wide network of professionals, including teachers, SENCOs, paediatricians, physiotherapists, and social workers.To provide clear and concise written advice and reports for families, education settings, and other agencies.4.
