Purpose of the Post Under the teacher’s clear guidance, in respect of their work with individuals or small groups, to support the education, personal and social development of pupils in the class including those with special educational needs and/or bilingual needs and to establish positive relationships with the pupils and assist them in completing structured learning activities. The role would be to ensure pupils remain on task and report progress to the teacher. To contribute to the overall vision and ethos of the school ensuring the best standards possible for pupils and staff. Further details about the role Knowledge and Experience Experience of working with young people of secondary school age Experience of working with young people with special educational needs and disabilities Ability to operate at a level of understanding and competence equivalent to NVQ Level 2 standard Commitment to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people Experience of working in a school or other learning environment Experience of supporting pupils with challenging behaviour Experience of working with confidential information Awareness of current issues in the Education sector Qualifications and Training Good standard of education- Minimum of GCSE or equivalent grade C in English and Maths NVQ level 2 or above qualification –appropriate to the post (or equivalent) Commitment to undertake in –service development Good numeracy and literacy skills Willingness to undertake first aid training Skills and Abilities Excellent time management, planning and organisational skills Ability to supervise and assist pupils Good communication skills at all levels Ability to work independently to organise own workload Ability to make effective use of ICT systems Ability to use Ipad systems, Microsoft 365 and Assistive Technology Good team player Flexible approach Good Behaviour Management Commitment to Equal Opportunities Ability to understand and demonstrate commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace Commitment to safeguarding Rainhill High School and Sixth Form is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people as well as promoting equality of opportunity and community cohesion; where the diversity of different backgrounds and circumstances is appreciated and positively valued and expects all staff, volunteers and other workers to share in this commitment.
