Waterway Operative

Manpower are currently looking for a Waterway Operative for our client based in the High Peak area of Derbyshire which will be based at Toddbrook Reservoir. As a Waterway Operative you will be responsible for the general upkeep of the locks and reservoir, undertaking low‑level maintenance duties along with water control and customer service. You will be required to work outdoors in all weathers, so the successful candidate must be prepared to work in cold, wet conditions – full PPE will be provided by the client. You may be required to drive the client’s vehicle; therefore a full UK driving licence is required and you must have had this for at least 2 years. This position is working 08:00 – 20:00, 4 days on 4 days off with a 1‑hour unpaid lunch. The client operates a 24‑hour operation, so a level of flexibility is required. The position is initially until April but may go on longer and offers an immediate start for the right candidate. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who thoroughly enjoy working outside. General duties will include Working outside and carrying out maintenance and repair works to the waterway infrastructure, to maximise network availability. Providing customer service through operation of the Trust’s assets (e.g. locks and bridges) in a safe and timely manner. Undertaking key duties associated with the maintenance of the waterway and waterside, e.g. towpath improvement work from repairs to litter removal. Protecting the natural and historic environment associated with the waterways by ensuring their consideration during all works. Providing a first level of response for reactive works to ensure the safety of customers and the availability of the network, participating in an on‑call rota as required. Working alongside and leading volunteers to deliver high‑quality works, maintaining and building on our high levels of volunteer satisfaction. Supporting asset inspections, identifying and reporting any structure failures, breaches, damage or pollution incidents to the Area Operations Manager or Engineers. Undertaking work in a productive and efficient manner, delivering the work to the correct standard and agreed programme.
