Graduate Electrical Engineer - Building Services - Manchester Join the application for the Graduate Electrical Engineer - Building Services role at Buro Happold. We are looking for a graduate to join our Building Services team in Manchester. About the role Graduate engineers work with mechanical, public health, lighting, façade engineers, and other specialists to create complete building services solutions, shaping the building from conceptual environmental strategy through construction, operation, and lifetime. We embed electrical engineers in the design process, collaborating with BIM and advanced 3D modeling. What will I do? Work as part of collaborative design teams to deliver impactful buildings. Embrace the latest technologies and continuously seek new ways to improve sustainability. Collaborate with internal sustainability consultants to enhance mental health, wellbeing, comfort and productivity through innovative electrical systems design. Design core electrical systems including lighting, low voltage power distribution and communications infrastructure. Contribute, in collaboration with specialists, to the design of electrical systems such as fire detection, CCTV, access control, intruder detection, and IT. Involved in implementation of vertical transportation systems by conducting lift traffic analyses using dynamic simulation software. Contribute to the decarbonisation of buildings by designing power distribution networks to support low carbon technologies including photovoltaics, electric heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines internally and externally (lighting specialists, sustainability and physics consultants, structural, civil, architects, landscape architects, sector specialists, interior designers). Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance computational workflows for electrical engineering through experimentation with cutting‑edge design tools, visual programming and latest software packages. Deliver high‑standard electrical designs including reports, calculations, BIM modelling, specifications, schedules and presentations. Qualifications Degree (or current study) in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a similar degree with emphasis on building systems design and sustainability. Proven interest in the built environment and internship experience at an engineering‑related firm is preferred. Desirable Experience Interest in electrical engineering, building design, and the impact of the decarbonisation of electricity supply. Academic research, coursework, or other experience with alternative energy systems and new construction technologies. Familiarity with BIM modelling software such as Revit.
