Assessment and Progression Officer – The University of Sheffield Salary: £32,080 – £36,636 per annum. Grade: 6. Full‑time, 1 year position. Line manager: Assessment and Progression Manager. Closing date: 11/01/2026. Key Responsibilities Provide high-level support to ensure assessment and progression policies, processes, and systems operate efficiently and effectively, enhancing student experience. Deliver routine, first‑line advice on the application of university assessment and progression regulations and policies. Contribute to the development, review and operationalisation of assessment and progression policies, including creation of supporting information and guidance. Lead data quality activities within the team; identify, resolve, and prevent recurrence of data issues. Collaborate with colleagues across the Academic Programmes Office, ensuring effective use of curriculum and related data. Maintain understanding of university regulations, policies, and the academic offer to inform policy and guidance development. Demonstrate commitment to the Sheffield Professional Framework and ethical decision‑making, embedding the sustainability strategy in activities. Carry out other duties in line with grade and remit. The ideal candidate demonstrates the following: Essential Criteria Experience interpreting and drafting complex regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to analyse and synthesise data for decision‑making and planning. Proactive identification and resolution of issues with awareness of long‑term implications. Understanding of assessment and progression in a higher‑education context and operational processes. Excellent written and verbal communication; capacity to explain/present complex information to varied audiences. Excellent time management and organisational skills, meeting predetermined deadlines and balancing workloads. Strong customer‑service and interpersonal skills; ability to advise academic departments on policy and procedural matters. Effective team member both within a small team and across multiple teams. Proficiency with IT packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Apps) and openness to new technology.
