OverviewHead Chef | £35,000 + tips | OTE £38,000 (Probation salary: £36,000)Location: West Bergholt, ColchesterWe’re currently recruiting for an experienced Head Chef to lead the kitchen of a respected independent gastro pub in West Bergholt, just outside Colchester. This is a fantastic opportunity for a chef with a minimum of two years' experience in a similar leadership role, who is passionate about fresh, seasonal cooking and delivering a consistent, high-quality dining experience.About the RoleAs Head Chef, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the kitchen from planning and delivering inspiring menus, to maintaining excellent standards of food safety and team performance. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the menu using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and work closely with the management team to ensure smooth and efficient service.This role suits someone who values a strong work-life balance and a positive team environment, and who is ready to contribute to a growing, respected local business.About the ClientOur client is an independent, well-established gastro pub with a loyal local following. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to quality, the venue is situated in a scenic village location and prides itself on offering a menu that highlights seasonal and locally sourced produce. The team is professional yet down-to-earth, with a strong culture of collaboration between kitchen and front-of-house.Working Hours40 hours per week5 working days, 2 consecutive days offStable rota with a genuine commitment to work-life balance3-month probation period at £36,000, then £35,000 + tips (OTE £38,000)Key DutiesOverseeing daily kitchen operations and team performanceDesigning and delivering seasonal menusManaging stock, orders, and supplier relationshipsEnsuring compliance with all food hygiene and safety regulationsTraining and mentoring junior staffMaintaining high standards of presentation and consistencyKey RequirementsAt least 2 years experience in a Head Chef roleRelevant culinary qualifications and up-to-date food hygiene certificationStrong leadership, communication, and organisational skillsConfidence in working with fresh, seasonal ingredientsAbility to manage budgets, waste, and costings effectivelyIf you’re an experienced Head Chef looking for a stable, long-term opportunity with a supportive team and room to make your mark, we’d love to hear from you.
