Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School in Southend

Hours: School hours (08:30 start – 08:00 arrival on first day)
A large and supportive secondary school in Southend is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their SEND team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in an inclusive environment that prioritises pupil wellbeing, behaviour, and academic progress.
About the Role
As an LSA, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and senior staff to support students both in and out of the classroom. Your role will be centred around helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and make strong progress.
Key Responsibilities
Support individuals or small groups under the direction of teaching staff.
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
Assist with activities that develop literacy, numeracy, and core learning skills.
Support pupils using ICT and promote independence.
Deliver planned learning activities, interventions, and tasks set by the teacher.
Promote positive behaviour and help pupils stay focused and engaged.
Encourage inclusion and provide tailored support for pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs.
Provide clear, constructive feedback to pupils and staff on progress and behaviour.
Help prepare and organise classroom resources.
Attend to pupils’ personal, social, and welfare needs as required.
Support with educational visits, work placements, and exam access arrangements (reader/scribe).
Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
Participate in relevant training and school meetings.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
