Job OverviewAt Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets (MRS‑GM), we ambitiously aim to become the leading Primary Specialty Insurance provider, underpinned by an effective and adaptable strategy, superior products and industry leaders working in a supportive environment to achieve this vision.We are currently looking for a Senior Cargo Underwriter to be based in London on a full‑time basis, reporting into the Cargo Underwriting Manager.SENIORITY LEVELMid‑Senior levelEMPLOYMENT TYPEFull‑timeJOB FUNCTIONFinanceINDUSTRIESInsuranceRESPONSIBILITIESAssist in the creation and delivery of the business plan for the Cargo team and be a driving force of the underwritingUnderwrite new and renewal Cargo risks, exercising judgement in all underwriting matters, and remain aware of own underwriting limits as set out on the Underwriting Authority sheet, all in accordance with the Underwriting business planEnsure the effective management of cargo business, including performance, EPI monitoring, referrals, bordereaux management, rate movement, claims trends, regular reviews, underwriter visits and auditsService existing contracts and open market risks, and make amendments in line with the Syndicate’s underwriting philosophyConduct and develop effective relationships with peers, clients, coverholders and brokers, with a view to retaining quality business and securing new business that falls within the Munich Re Specialty Group appetite for CargoEstablish and run projects and initiatives such as new sub‑classes and products to serve clients and diversify the portfolio from both a risk and income perspectiveReview slips and/or other information/literature, exercising own judgment, based on knowledge and experience, acting within own limits of authority at all timesNegotiate new wordings and structures, ensuring clients’ needs are serviced and regulatory requirements met, whilst preserving a prudent risk appetite, in line with the syndicate and team’s underwriting strategyKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSAdvanced knowledge and understanding of underwriting principlesAdvanced knowledge and understanding of legal principlesFCA and Lloyd’s rules and regulations including contract certainty issuesAll company specific procedures that relate to own role and role of those employees that you are supervisingDemonstrate clear understanding of the roles of colleagues and their relationships to the structure and business plans of the FirmDevelop and maintain market awareness and continually demonstrate thought leadershipDIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSIONAt Munich Re, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion foster innovation and resilience and enable us to act braver and better.
