We welcome applications from the Armed Forces Community. #JoinTeamEliot Overview The main purpose of this post is to support the Directorate of Surgery and the Trust in maintaining the delivery of a high‑quality service, ensuring the patients of North Warwickshire have access to Oncoplastic Breast Surgery in a timely manner. The prospective candidate will be part of the breast care unit team consisting of two consultants and one Specialty Doctor. We are ably supported by Radiologists and oncologists from UHCW (we are part of Coventry and Warwickshire Breast screening unit). We have a workload of 170 breast cancers in a year. We have excellent co‑operation from Plastic surgeons from our local tertiary centre and neighbouring trust (UHCW) for complex reconstructions. Clinical commitments will include provision of new patient assessment clinics, one‑stop, results clinics, follow‑up clinics, MDT and theatre. Main duties of the job Provide a comprehensive breast surgical service. Oncoplastic breast surgical experience is essential. Provide outpatient clinics (new patient, results and specialist oncoplastic clinics) and undertake elective surgical lists in breast surgery. Potential for increasing operating sessions to include Saturdays in the future. Post‑operative care of patients is coordinated via the Breast Surgery Team, ensuring that appropriate management and care is provided to all patients under the Breast Surgery Specialty. Out of Hours on call service is provided by the general surgery on call rota. A Surgical Assessment Unit is available 7 days per week for emergency access for patients. Clinical duties Diagnosis and treatment of patients, continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation and training of your staff. Diagnosis and treatment of patients occupying accommodation made available under section 58, 65, and 66 of the National Health Act 1977, in so far as such patients have not made private arrangements for such treatment under section 65(2) of the Act. Person Specification Experience and Knowledge – Essential Clinical training and experience in Breast Surgery Ability to offer expert opinion in a range of problems covering elective and emergency problems within the specialty Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients Training/competence in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists Ability to manage and lead a team Desirable Clinical training and experience to that required for gaining UK CCST in Breast Surgery Qualifications and Professional Training – Essential FRCS or equivalent Full GMC registration Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register Member of the Royal College of Surgeons Eligible to work in the UK Desirable CCT (or CESR) in General Surgery Skills and Abilities – Essential Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service Experience of supervising junior medical staff Ability to teach clinical and operative skills Ability to apply research outcomes to the clinical and surgical problems Proven research ability including publications in peer‑reviewed journals Desirable Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates Ability to supervise under‑ or post‑graduate research Personal Qualities – Essential Ability to work in a team Positive interpersonal skills Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GP's, nurses and other stakeholders Commitment to continuing medical education Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels Professional integrity and respect for others: capacity to take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate a non‑judgmental approach towards others. Displays honesty, integrity, awareness of confidentiality and ethical issues. Knowledge of principles of audit and clinical governance: capacity to be alert to dangers or problems, demonstrates awareness of good decision making, aware of own limitations, track record of engaging in clinical governance, reporting errors, learning from errors. Completion of at least one audit and evidence of conducting an audit or presented/published an abstract.
