An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Shah Zaman Surgery, part of the North Birmingham Primary Care Network (PCN).We are a dynamic and forward-thinking practice, passionate about developing and delivering high-quality local healthcare services that meet the needs of our patients.Following the recent changes to the ARRS Scheme, which now includes General Practitioners, we are looking to expand our PCN team by recruiting a newly qualified General Practitioner (must have qualified within the last two years). This post is subject to the continuation of NHS funding for the role.You will work closely with ourpractice and PCN team to provide excellent, patient-centred care. Our multidisciplinary PCN team includes Clinical Pharmacists, Physician Associates, Social Prescribers, Mental Health Practitioners, General Practice Assistants, Physiotherapists, Care Coordinators, and General Practitioners.If you are an enthusiastic and motivated GP looking to start your career in a supportive, innovative environment, we would love to hear from you.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work as an autonomous General Practitioner within a supportive primary care team, providing high-quality, patient-centred clinical care. You will independently assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of health conditions, supported by a multidisciplinary team across the practice and PCN.You will provide expert advice and guidance to patients, carers, and colleagues, promoting evidence-based practice and maintaining clinical excellence at all times. The role also involves contributing to the education and training of medical trainees, students, and other healthcare staff, supporting continuous learning and professional development.As a GMC-registered practitioner, you will be professionally accountable for all aspects of your clinical practice, ensuring patient safety, effective record-keeping, and the highest standards of care. They will address a wide range of health needs for both registered and temporary patients.The role includes face-to-face surgery and telephone consultations, home visits, administrative duties, and adherence to contractual obligations (GMS/enhanced services/DES). The post-holder will work collaboratively with colleagues at the practice and with the wider PCN team as needed to ensure safe, effective, and integrated care.Main Duties & Responsibilities Clinical ResponsibilitiesConduct face-to-face and telephone consultations, home visits, and manage patient queries, reports, and correspondence efficiently.Triage patients presenting to the practice via telephone, online, or in person.Make professional, autonomous clinical decisions for self-referred patients or referrals from colleagues.Assess and manage undifferentiated and undiagnosed patient problems.Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.Develop care plans with patients in line with practice protocols, promoting healthy lifestyles and patient education.Manage long-term conditions and patients with complex needs.Maintain clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.Collect data for audit and comply with QOF requirements.Deliver enhanced services as required.Manage and review patient test results.Refer patients to secondary care or other relevant services, including internal PCN team members.Prescribe and issue repeat and acute prescriptions in line with local and national guidelines.Other ResponsibilitiesComply with all relevant practice policies, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, and health and safety.Commit to lifelong learning, audit, and evidence-based practice.Contribute to clinical audits, standard-setting, and summarising patient records.Attend relevant training, events, and practice meetings.Contribute to the education and training of trainees, students, and staff.ConfidentialityMaintain strict confidentiality of patient, staff, and practice information in accordance with relevant policies and legislation.Health and SafetyPromote and maintain personal and workplace health, safety, and security in line with Practice Health & Safety Policy.Identify risks in work activities and manage them appropriately.Follow infection control procedures and maintain a safe and tidy workplace.Report potential risks promptly.Equality and DiversitySupport equality, diversity, and the rights of patients, carers, and colleagues.Respect privacy, dignity, beliefs, and individual needs.Promote non-discriminatory practice and act as a positive role model.Professional DevelopmentMaintain continued professional development to meet GMC PREP requirements.Participate in annual performance review and identify training needs.Take responsibility for own learning, development, and performance.QualityMaintain and improve quality within the practice.Contribute to team effectiveness through reflection and improvement suggestions.Manage own workload and resources efficiently.Participate in handling complaints, significant events, and learning opportunities.CommunicationCommunicate effectively with patients, carers, and team members.Respond to alternative communication needs appropriately.Contribution to Service ImplementationApply practice policies, standards, and guidance in daily work.Participate in audits and service improvement initiatives.Person SpecificationQualificationsMBBS or equivalent medical degreeFull registration with GMCCertification of Completion of Training JCPTGP/PMETB.
