About the Role Connex Education is working with a Primary School in Birkenhead that is recruiting for a full-time Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a child in Year 1 with SEN and challenging behaviour. You will be supporting the child throughout the school day, helping them to access the curriculum and engage with learning in a calm, structured, and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, proactive, and experienced in working with children with additional needs. Assignment Details This role is full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 3:30pm, starting in January 2026. Person Specification Qualifications A Level 2/3 teaching assistant qualification is desirable; however, those with relevant school experience will also be considered. GCSEs or equivalent Level 2 in Maths and English. Current DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for a new one through Connex. Knowledge and skills Builds positive, supportive relationships with pupils and staff to support teaching & learning. Upholds high standards of professional behaviour, presentation, and integrity. Committed to maintaining consistency in learning and behaviour expectations. Open to professional development and constructive feedback. Demonstrates strong literacy, numeracy, and communication skills. Works collaboratively within classroom routines, showing initiative and professionalism. Adapts to pupils’ varying needs and supports inclusion. Demonstrates patience, empathy, and consistency when supporting pupils of varying needs and abilities. Reliable, well-presented, and committed to confidentiality and ongoing development. Sound understanding of classroom roles, routines, and expectations, and how to contribute effectively to these. Observant and reflective, able to recognise and respond to changes in behaviour or wellbeing. Awareness of safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries in a school setting.
