Job Summary Are you a highly specialist practitioner psychologist looking to work within the acute hospital setting with the liaison psychiatry team? Liaison psychiatry is looking for a part‑time highly specialist practitioner psychologist based primarily at Royal Bournemouth Hospital with cross‑cover at Poole Hospital as and when required. Responsibilities Manage and develop the specialist psychology service for older people in Dorset. Provide expert psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan. Formulate plans for formal psychological assessment and management, and implement a range of interventions. Make evaluations and decisions about treatment options and exercise full responsibility and autonomy for the treatment and discharge of clients. Line‑manage and supervise psychologists and assistant psychologists working in the Liaison psychiatry service. Carry out audit, policy and service development, research activities and programmes as required. Undertake research and development activities, including teaching and supervision of other staff. Provide advice and consultancy to patients and professionals, ensuring effective recruitment, appraisal and CPD across Dorset. Drive frequently throughout Dorset to support service delivery. Qualifications Minimum of at least 5 years work experience following a Clinical Psychology Doctorate qualification or equivalent. Experience working with adults with mental health difficulties. High‑level communication skills (written and verbal). Skills in the use of complex and highly specialist methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management requiring sustained concentration. Post‑graduate doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS, including specific models of psychopathology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Eligibility for membership of Divisions of Clinical Psychology. Highly developed knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for difficult‑to‑treat groups such as personality disorder, dual diagnoses, medically unexplained symptoms and severely challenging behaviours. Experience working with teams and professionals to promote psychological understanding and working. Further postgraduate or post‑doctoral training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice or research design and analysis. Personal Qualities Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and warmly with patients. Independence, reliability and consistent work management. High level of interpersonal skills, self‑awareness, sensitivity, tact and empathy. Awareness of personal and professional boundaries.
