Job Summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Locum Consultant Neurologist (up to 2 years). Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a Consultant Neurologist to join our team of 9 consultants. This is an exciting time to join our growing department. Main Duties of the Job Deliver high-quality general neurology services across Worcestershire Develop and lead a subspecialty service in your area of expertise Provide outpatient care across multiple hospital sites including Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital Take part in inpatient neurology care at Worcester Royal Hospital, including ward referrals Work closely with a diverse MDT to deliver seamless patient care Engage in teaching and research Participate in the duty neurologist rota, including a 1 in 8 weekend rota About Us Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute and specialised hospital trust that provides a range of local acute services to residents of Worcestershire and more specialised services to a larger population in Herefordshire and beyond. Person Specification – Other Requirements An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call Qualifications (Essential) Full GMC Registration with Licence to practise Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent e.g. MRCP Experienced in Neurology care Qualifications (Desirable) Higher degree Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or expected within 6 months of interview date) via O/CCT or CESR (CP) or CESR or European Community Rights Management and Administrative Experience (Essential) Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities Ability to manage and lead the specialty firm and multi-disciplinary team Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit Management and Administrative Experience (Desirable) Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate Ability to use evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making Teaching Experience (Essential) Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates Teaching Experience (Desirable) Ability to supervise postgraduate research Research Experience (Essential) Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems Awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiatives Research Experience (Desirable) Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in last 5 years Evidence of having undertaken original research Willingness to support stroke research Personal Attributes (Essential) Ability to work in a team Enquiring, critical approach to work Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies Commitment to Continuing Medical Education Personal Attributes (Desirable) Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local regional or national levels Experience (Essential) Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Neurology & Acute or Stroke / General Medicine & Elderly Care Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients Expertise in Neurology and stroke care across acute, inpatient & community rehabilitation Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
