About the Role The Clinical Team Leader supports the Ward Manager in delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care, leading shifts, supervising staff and ensuring smooth day‑to‑day operations. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, families and external partners to facilitate holistic recovery for patients. This opportunity enables you to utilise your existing skills and experience while expanding your areas of nursing practice – whether trauma‑informed care, psychological therapies, physical health or service improvement. Main Duties Assist the Ward Manager in setting standards, promoting change and developing nursing practice, supervision and audit. Deputise for the manager during absence. Ensure delivery of high‑standard nursing care in accordance with evidence‑based practice and trust policies. Responsibilities Communication and Working Relationship Skills Excellent written and verbal communication. Partnership with all health, social care professionals and stakeholders. liaise with carers, families and user groups. Planning and Organisational Skills Act as shift coordinator. Deputise for the manager during absence. Lead and supervise others, manage absences and conduct performance reviews. Assist with development and delivery of evidence‑based treatments. Participate in training and development of junior staff. Monitor clinical work and develop team skills. Delegate tasks considering staff skills and grades. Produce staffing rotas within budgetary constraints. Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy Implement and review care plans as part of ongoing assessment. Ensure up‑to‑date risk assessments are carried out. Maintain highest standards of care. Promote good practice in managing acutely disturbed clients. Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and other professional guidelines. Policy and Service Development Implementation Review, update and implement standards and policies for adult inpatient settings. Participate in ongoing training and education. Stay aware of current initiatives in inpatient care. Promote service changes positively. Explore innovative ways of delivering and improving patient care. Finance, Equipment and Other Resources Establish an efficient working environment, utilizing staff, supplies, equipment and services. Demonstrate effective risk management. Human Resources – Supervision, Training, HR Advice and Management Provide supervision and appraisals for qualified staff. Demonstrate effective leadership/management skills. Act as mentor to students. Participate in audits. Develop and empower junior staff. Information Resources and Administrative Duties Ensure accurate documentation. Have working knowledge of the EPEX system. Ensure clinical/care records are accurate and consistent with professional and organisational requirements. Other Specific Tasks Report any observed incident of unprofessional behaviour, accident/incident, untoward occurrence or faulty equipment immediately to the ward manager. Qualifications Essential Professional Mental Health Nursing qualification. Evidence of PREP. Desirable Teaching qualification (e.g., Mentor 998). Management qualification. Experience Essential Motivating change within a team. Clinical supervision and mentoring experience. Good liaison skills and ability to manage difficult and complex situations. Substantial post‑registration experience. Experience as a ‘Band 5’ in an acute inpatient setting. Mentoring students in line with professional requirements. Knowledge Essential Management techniques and how to inspire best practice. Understanding of the Mental Health Act / Capacity Act. Understanding of recovery principles in Mental Health. Disclosure and Barring Service Check The post requires a Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service, subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exemptions Order) 1975.
