Senior/Principal Socio‑Economics Consultant WSP is looking for a Senior or Principal Socio‑Economics Consultant to support a growing portfolio of complex and high‑profile projects. A Little More About Your Role We are a growing team working alongside multidisciplinary services, including town planning, master‑planning and urban design, transport, and strategic communications. We are seeking a socio‑economics specialist with a strong interest in economic growth and a commitment to delivering impactful work across regeneration, social value, and inclusive development. Projects span the public and private sector, such as large‑scale strategic new settlements, urban regeneration, culture and tourism, energy and offshore wind, and commercial development. Examples include: Eden Project Morecambe – a new cultural and visitor offer for Morecambe, Lancaster, to support regeneration and economic diversification. South East Warrington Urban Extension – 4,000+ home new urban extension to the southeast of Warrington. Heathlands Garden Community – social value workstream and equality impact assessment for a new settlement of 5,000 homes, 16 ha of employment, a district centre and a new railway station. A29, Cookstown, Northern Ireland – social value engagement exercise for the Department for Infrastructure. Responsibilities Develop socio‑economic strategies and evidence to support planning and investment decisions, aligning with local and national policy frameworks. Undertake economic impact modelling to assess the economic potential of sites. Draft socio‑economic statements and impact assessments for development proposals, regeneration schemes, and infrastructure projects. Lead socio‑economic inputs within multidisciplinary teams. Attend stakeholder, design team, and client meetings to inform analysis and reporting. Manage project delivery, including scope, programme, and budgetary control across multiple commissions. Collaborate with colleagues across WSP to embed socio‑economic considerations in wider project advice. Monitor government guidance and best practice to inform client advice and project positioning. Requirements Degree qualification in economics, planning, or a related field. Strong interest in socio‑economics – economic impact, social value, health, equalities, and social infrastructure. Experience of undertaking socio‑economic assessment. Skill in data analysis. Grounding in UK planning policy and frameworks. Extensive multidisciplinary work experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Technical Skills Socio‑economic research and data modelling. Economic impact assessment. Economic analysis for strategic planning and master‑planning. Social value strategy. Socio‑economic impact assessment. Social infrastructure assessment. Health impact assessment. Equality impact assessment. Socio‑economic EIA. Technical report writing and effective communication. Project management and collaboration. Client‑facing project delivery and work‑winning.
