Main duties of the job The Community Perinatal Mental Health Team are part of the Specialist Services directorate and co‑located on the Hopewood site with Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services. We are a Nationally Accredited Service with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. We provide assessment and treatment to women with a range of mental health needs related to the perinatal period. The Team provides a service to the City and County of Nottinghamshire and Bassetlaw with clinics located across this geography. Our core purpose is to work with expectant mothers and mothers to address their mental health needs and mitigate any impact on the unborn baby and infant. We aim to improve the health outcomes for mothers with the provision of a timely, integrated, high quality, effective, multi‑disciplinary interventions. Although the Team covers the whole region, this post will be located to the Newark and Mansfield areas. Job responsibilities Although the service provides care across the whole County and Bassetlaw, this specific post will be mostly offering appointments to patients in Mansfield and Newark areas. Perinatal Mental Health Services has received extensive investment in recent years, recognising the importance on public health in treating mental health problems in the perinatal period. We are looking for an enthusiastic, diligent, and experienced Mental Health Nurse who has the ability to manage complex situations to join our team. Sound therapeutic strategies, combined with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing are essential. You will have experience of working with mothers with perinatal illness and some knowledge of normal child development in order to understand the potential impact of untreated maternal mental illness on the developing foetus/infant/children. You will have the ability to liaise effectively with various health, social and voluntary professionals. A sound working knowledge of Safeguarding is also required. This post offers a supportive team working environment, with commitment to supervision. To participate fully as a member of the specialised PCPN team providing total packages of care from assessment through to discharge which includes prevention/minimisation of detrimental effects of Perinatal illnesses on the developing foetus/infant and other children.To maintain a diary of work activities and to produce timely and accurate statistics as required to enable close monitoring of contractual activity and to provide data for audit purposes.To maintain excellent communication between other service providers to ensure good multi‑disciplinary working, attending case conferences and client reviews as required.To offer specialist advice/training to other professionals, carers, statutory and voluntary agencies to promote mental health awareness.To provide advice and consultation to GPs, Consultant Psychiatrists, Obstetricians and other medical staff, Midwives, Health Visitors, Social Workers and other allied professionals.To provide urgent assessments on the maternity wards in the locality.To ensure client confidentiality is maintained in line with Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Policy.To maintain effective records in line with Trust Policies and Procedures.The supervision of junior members of the clinical team. A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010. Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies. Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams. Understanding of Sure Start and its role. Undertaking mental health and risk assessments confidently, and developing care plans accordingly Attended conferences/study days in Perinatal Mental Health Experience of teaching groups Caseload holding and management Qualifications RMN or Diploma in Mental Health Nursing Registered Mental Health Nurse Registered with the NMC Teaching Recent academic study Post qualification training in appropriate psychological interventions Training Continued professional development in offering therapeutic interventions Mental Health Act CPA Safeguarding Children Safeguarding adults Physical Requirements oThe post holder will be required to drive and have the ability to access patient's homes or other venues as requested by the patient.
