Job Overview As Senior Cost Manager, you will lead end‑to‑end cost management services for projects ranging from £10 m to £50 m, driving value engineering, procurement, contract administration and post‑contract cost control. Scope Projects typically fall within the £10 m to £50 m range and you will manage commissions of varying complexity. Key Accountabilities Coach junior staff, allocating roles and ensuring effective cost management. Advise clients on feasibility studies and procurement options. Manage estimating and cost planning stages, presenting final cost plans. Handle tendering and procurement, including pre‑qualification and tender analysis. Act as contract administrator, addressing post‑contract cost variances and change control. Review cost allowances and conduct valuations on larger projects with accurate cost checking. Produce monthly post‑contract cost reports via our Cost Control App. Input value engineering items and negotiate final accounts. Interface with clients, Project Managers and consultants at all stages. Lead a cost management team where appropriate. Utilise bespoke digital tools such as The Hive, CostX, Market Rates App and eTender Platform. Implement the Embodied Carbon Calculator to produce carbon footprint reports. Support the execution of our NewLeaf strategy and manage internal fees and resourcing. Marketing and Business Development Identify opportunities to develop new business with existing clients. Develop and maintain a professional network of peers and potential clients. Lead bid submissions and identify ways to improve cost management procedures. Participate in extracurricular activities, external groups, networking and CPD events. Internal Management Accountabilities Knowledge management – input key information into internal database. Process improvement – identify and refer ideas for internal systems. Lead support and mentorship of junior staff. Manage projects on D365. Reporting Senior Cost Managers typically report to an Associate Director, Project Director or Director. Key Performance Indicators Effective management of commissions to quality standards and on time. Service delivery in line with appointment conditions. Strong relationships with clients and cross‑functional team members. Effective cost management team performance and responsibility for Assistant/Cost Managers. Opportunities for new business identification. Margin performance on all commissions. Efficient cascade and retention of key information and data. Candidate Profile Ability to work autonomously and deliver to tight deadlines. Self‑motivated with initiative. Had achieved Chartered Status. Confident and professional manner. Highly organised and able to prioritise workload. Collaborative and able to build relationships across the business. Work well under pressure. Delegates tasks to junior team to assist technical development. Qualifications Good knowledge of construction methods and procurement routes. Sound knowledge of JCT/NEC contract forms. Excellent measurement and cost planning with NRM use. Commercially astute with negotiation and communication skills. Team‑oriented. Proven track record of delivering high‑quality cost management / quantity surveying services across full project lifecycle. Ideally RICS or similar professional qualification. Degree or HNC level qualification. Strong ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects.
