Principal Town Planner

OverviewAECOM is seeking a Principal Town Planner to work on infrastructure planning projects across the UK with a focus on DCO projects. The role supports projects in energy/renewables, transport, defence, water and more. Base location can be flexible with hybrid working; offices include Manchester among others.ResponsibilitiesLead and assist in the delivery of major development applications.Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across various project types.Submit and manage planning applications, liaising and negotiating with local planning authorities and key stakeholders.Provide planning advice on consent requirements and permitted development rights.Produce planning feasibility reports and consent strategies.Write Planning Statements and Design and Access Statements for development applications.Contribute to business development in market sectors; identify opportunities and build client relationships.Lead and contribute to successful commercial tenders.Collaborate with Environmental Impact Assessment teams and participate in stakeholder meetings.Oversee project management, ensuring quality and adherence to health and safety principles.Qualifications & ExperienceDegree in Town Planning or related discipline.Membership of RTPI or equivalent.Significant experience leading planning applications for large infrastructure projects across various regimes.Excellent written communication skills; ability to write clearly and concisely.Client focus with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; existing relationships with clients and local authorities preferred.Experience with business development and working with tenders.Ability to work independently and under pressure.Team & EnvironmentAECOM’s Town Planning team is national; hybrid working is supported.
