Mobile Mechanic (HGV Field Service Engineer) Lanes Group, a leading independent specialist infrastructure delivery partner, completed a major contract win with Southern Water. We are recruiting a Mobile Fitter Engineer to support the Southern Water area. Position: Mobile Mechanic (HGV Field Service Engineer) Location: Based out of the Millbrook depot (Southampton, Hampshire) but travelling across Kent, Sussex and the Isle of Wight. Job Type: Permanent, full‑time Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 Hours Salary: up to £55,000 per annum (basic pay + overtime + on‑call allowance + bonuses) Benefits: 21 days holiday (plus bank holidays) + birthday off + health cash plan + onsite parking + auto enrolment pension scheme + enhanced maternity and paternity + retention loyalty scheme (based on length of service) + company van and fuel card. STRICTLY NO AGENCIES PLEASE Responsibilities Maintain the fleet of vehicles (small vans to HGVs) ensuring optimal performance of hydraulic and high‑pressure jetting systems. Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of hydraulic components and jetting equipment. Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergencies involving hydraulic systems, providing on‑site repairs to minimise downtime. Utilise diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and rectify technical issues. Analyse recurring problems and collaborate with the wider team to implement preventive measures. Stay up‑to‑date with relevant legislation and industry standards; ensure all maintenance and repair activities comply with health and safety regulations, environmental standards and industry best practices. Promote safe working practices among the team in line with legal requirements. Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them. Qualifications & Experience Hard‑working, respectful and compliant with health and safety standards. Strong background in commercial HGV vehicle servicing. Class B Driving Licence and fully recognised industry qualifications (City & Guilds or equivalent). Class C+E / HGV Class 2 Driver’s Licence (essential). IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications useful. Previous water‑industry experience preferred; hydraulics experience desirable.
