The Work Of a Trainee Asbestos Surveyor/Analyst Includes As a Trainee Asbestos Surveyor/Analyst you will undertake a structured programme of site‑based learning and instruction from our qualified surveyors. During the first six months of employment you will undertake the BOHS P402 qualification for surveying and the P403 and P404 qualifications for air monitoring. After completing your training and becoming fully authorised you will work in the field on client projects in both domestic and commercial properties, delivering accurate and timely survey reports in accordance with contractual requirements. You will be provided a fully equipped mobile laboratory (van) for on‑site surveys or air monitoring. You will be based primarily out of our Bromley office (covering the South), with occasional travel to other regions. Survey work includes domestic and commercial properties such as station buildings, shops, hospitals and churches. About You Pro‑active, calm and patient nature IT literate with experience of MS Word and Excel Desirable: experience or knowledge of stereomicroscopes/polarised light microscopy and laboratory environment Good written and verbal communication; can work well with colleagues across all areas of the business Client satisfaction is important; daily communication with on‑site members via telephone and e‑mail Must be a driver and have access to a vehicle – the Warrington office is not serviced by public transport Key Responsibilities The core role is client‑site or office‑based. Once trained and authorised, you will undertake management and refurbishment & demolition surveys, air monitoring, bulk sample collection, and provide clear, well‑written site notes. Management Survey Also known as a standard survey, the purpose is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of suspect asbestos‑containing materials (ACMs) in a building. R&D Survey – Refurbishment & Demolition Survey Required when premises or parts of them need upgrading, refurbishment or demolition. The survey ensures no harm from work on ACMs. Air Monitoring Testing air to measure respirable asbestos fibre levels during work on asbestos‑containing materials. Control monitoring checks effectiveness of control measures while work or removal is undertaken. Duties and Responsibilities Proactively engage in training and development provided by the company After authorisation, undertake surveys, take bulk samples, provide clear site notes on tablet, advise clients, and facilitate removal works where required Provide asbestos analytical services, including air monitoring, fibre counting and, if qualified, bulk sample analysis Stay up to date with asbestos legislation, guidance, industry best practice, UKAS accreditation, and quality management arrangements Maintain awareness of Health & Safety legislation and other relevant legislation Support the business by working flexibly from office or client sites as required Take personal responsibility for maintaining technical expertise and sector awareness Comply with quality management arrangements and audit programme Represent the company with expected conduct and attitude as ambassadors Ensure projects are delivered on time and meet legal obligations as an asbestos service provider and employer Meet personal billing and productivity targets Contribute to a positive, honest, and open company culture that values all opinions and contributions Carry out other duties as reasonably required Benefits Pennington Choices is recognised by Best Companies as a very good employer each year since 2018.
