We manage important environmental monitoring systems and datasets. You’ll join a multi-disciplinary team supporting and learning from colleagues while analysing and improving data that underpins our work. The Technical Officer helps manage these systems and data and provides support to users. You will fulfil a multi‑purpose role, working on our Water Quality systems and data, but will be expected to support other systems and data as needed. You will work closely with team members and can expect to be involved in any of the following: Set up and manage users Supporting users and resolving issues, especially when we move to our new My Environment application Updating, improvements and maintaining datasets Responding to internal and external data requests Supporting our system improvement and upgrade projects If you have a passion for working with data/systems, a desire to improve the way we work and are keen to develop and learn new skills, this could be the role for you. The Monitoring Data and Systems Team in Instrument and Systems provides support to the business by maintaining important Environment Agency environmental monitoring systems for Water Quality, Fish, Biology, Ecology, and Water Quantity. Experience / Skills Required Experience of working with large complex datasets A willingness to develop and learn new technical skills and apply these across our monitoring data and systems A motivated, organised, friendly and helpful person with an eye for detail, comfortable working in a dispersed team environment A proactive individual who enjoys solving problems Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others and provide excellent customer service Other Desirable Experience / Skills Experience of using and managing environmental monitoring data systems Experience of using PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R A working knowledge of water quality monitoring Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England and maintain a presence there. We offer a hybrid home/office working model but some travel is expected for meetings.
